Ruby gets a letter

Ruby got what I think is her first letter in the mail today. From the 2nd grade class at St. John School, congratulating her on her recent baptism. I don’t know what impresses me more – the fact that 8-year-olds are still taught how to write an actual letter, or the fact that all these kids and their teacher took time to write a little note to my 11-month-old daughter. Either way, it brings a tear to my eye. And in one fell swoop makes up for every ruler across the knuckles, every paddle, every hour of detention I got in Catholic school.

To Ruby From the 2nd Grade Dear Ruby
