The Road Less Traveled

On the first day of our cross-country road trip we managed to completely stay off of the interstate. We started from Lopez Island and made a last minute decision to take the scenic route to Wenatchee – the North Cascades Highway (Hwy 20). It probably meant an extra hour on the road, but it was totally worth it given the gorgeous scenery along the way: waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, rushing rivers. Luckily the winding road through the pass didn’t make anybody car sick. We stopped for dinner and a photo opp in Winthrop.

I’m so glad we decided to take the road less traveled as we leave Washington State. Hopefully more blue highways await us. Tomorrow: Coeur d’Alene, ID – to say goodbye to the Spokane Frys.
